Thomas Borch Lab

Environmental and Agricultural Chemistry

Our research is focused on topics such as water treatment and reuse for agricultural irrigation, wildfire impacts on soil and water, wildland-urban interface fires, methods for remediating PFAS contamination, microplastic and plastic additive contamination in soil, high resolution mass spectrometry and non-targeted analysis, produced water characterization, and soil/water quality impacts on crop health.

Borch Lab Research Projects

Dr. Borch is a Professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, with joint appointments in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Department of Chemistry.

Because we have such an interdisciplinary approach to our work, we are able to pursue complex agricultural, environmental, and industrial projects.

We Are an Interdisciplinary Lab

Working in environmental analytical chemistry nearly always means working at the intersection of many different disciplines. Here in the Borch group, we frequently collaborate with disciplines such as microbiology, geology, environmental engineering, civil engineering, materials chemistry, and ecology among others!
