Last week, our very own Jacob VanderRoest successfully defended his dissertation titled Wildfire Impacts on Soil Organic Matter Biodegradability, Metabolomics, and Biogeochemical Carbon Cycling. In his dissertation, Jacob explored post-fire changes in soil organic matter composition and dissolved organic matter composition using high-resolution mass spectrometry and various incubation techniques. Read more about his work (and see his recent publications) here. Jacob will continue studying in the Borch lab for a few more months, then he is off to begin work as a post-doctoral researcher in Dr. Scott Fendorf’s lab at Stanford University. Congratulations Dr. VanderRoest!

Keep up with Jacob’s work on LinkedIn.
