Fedorka - Equine Reproductive Immunology Lab

Dr. Fedorka’s program explores the relationship between the immune system and reproduction. This includes understanding tolerance of the semi-allogeneic fetus, the immune response mechanisms for pregnancy-related diseases, and the development of immunomodulators to improve pregnancy success. With improved knowledge on reproductive immunology, inferences can be made into a variety of current topics in equine clinical practice, including but not limited to endometritis, early embryonic loss, endometrial cup degradation, pregnancy maintenance, placentitis, and postpartum involution.

Equine Physiology Research

Healthy reproduction is the foundation of the equine industry - supporting breeding farms, performance programs, veterinary practices, and the long-term welfare of horses. The Fedorka Lab is dedicated to improving reproductive success in mares and stallions by uncovering how the immune system shapes fertility, pregnancy, and offspring health. Our work sits at the intersection of cutting-edge science and real-world application, ensuring that discoveries made in the laboratory directly benefit horses, owners, and industry partners. A central focus of our research is understanding why some mares struggle to conceive or maintain pregnancy despite excellent management.
