We are collecting data from individual beef cattle with known pedigrees to determine their methane emissions, feed intake, and growth performance. Our long-term goal of this research is to pilot a genetic selection tool for reducing methane emissions from beef cattle via genetic selection. Secondarily, this project is helping us understand the potential synergies and tradeoffs between methane emissions, growth performance, and economic sustainability of cattle production.
